What Diatomite Does Not Do

• It is not permanently mold-proof. Because it dries quickly, it resists mold under normal care, but no surface is mold-proof in standing water.
• It is brittle. Pressed diatomite can chip or crack if dropped or struck.
• Drying slows in humid conditions. The material still absorbs, but moisture release depends on airflow and humidity.
• Sanding creates dust. Sanding any mineral-based surface can generate fine dust; use appropriate dust-control measures, work in a well-ventilated area, and avoid breathing the dust.
